A Necessary Rescue
This Tuesday on TV, don’t miss the episode of Kitchen Nightmare on M6, filmed in Chambéry. The setting? A charming corner of the city center where the Café Chabert is located, managed by Christine, a restaurateur in difficulty. Since she took over this business in 2021, the restaurant has struggled to attract customers, primarily due to its location on Basse du Château street.
Christine’s situation had reached a critical point. The production team arrived with their cameras on March 25, armed with the hope of breathing new life into this struggling restaurant. For Christine, it was a matter of commercial survival. “Since I took over the business, attendance has plummeted. I can’t even pay my bills,” she recounts, juggling the kitchen and service all on her own.
The Driving Force Behind the Help
Behind this rescue operation is Paula, a caring seamstress located right across from Café Chabert. “I sent a little message to Kitchen Nightmare one Sunday afternoon. They replied the next day!” explains Paula. For her, watching Christine struggle was unbearable. Her pragmatism paid off: the production team quickly arrived.
An Emotional Turning Point
Christine was immediately open to the idea of welcoming Philippe Etchebest. However, opening her doors to a famous chef doesn’t just mean technical improvements. It also involves moments of introspection and deep emotions. “Of course, there are still some quite difficult moments. It’s a two-hour psychotherapy session. Besides his humanity, he has an incredible gift; he makes us talk about what we silence every day. And twice, I cried in his arms,” confides Christine.
Reorganization and Rebirth
The show is famous for its well-oiled mechanics: tears, awareness, and reorganization. Café Chabert benefited from this intervention in several ways:
- Complete refresh of the dining room
- New decoration
- Modification of the furniture layout
- Installation of a new dishwashing area and fryer
- Provision of tools facilitating daily work
Christine now hopes to attract a new clientele thanks to this “Kitchen Nightmare” effect starting this summer.
