A New Restaurant Born from an Unshakeable Friendship
Near Bernay, a new traditional restaurant has opened its doors, capturing the attention of locals and visitors alike. This new establishment, named Lou’Bar-re, is not just a place to dine but the culmination of a joint project by two childhood friends, John Marais and Gaylord Esnoult.
Two Longtime Friends Turned Entrepreneurs
John and Gaylord have known each other since their early childhood in Mesnil-en-Ouche. Both 35 years old, they have nurtured a solid friendship since elementary school. With different professional backgrounds, it was during friendly chats that the idea of opening a restaurant together emerged.
A Project Evolving from Grocery Store to Restaurant
Initially, the building previously occupied by a bar was acquired by Gaylord Esnoult and his wife Aurélia Samain with the aim of establishing a local products grocery store. However, obstacles related to the availability of local farmers and artisans hindered this project. That’s when the idea of transforming the space into a restaurant took shape.
A Traditional Cuisine with Daily Menus
Relying on John’s expertise as a chef, the duo has developed a menu of traditional cuisine where the menu changes daily. The dishes offered always include two choices for the starter, main course, and dessert, ensuring variety and balance.
- Starters: two choices
- Main courses: two choices
- Desserts: two choices
Promising First Days
Ideally located in the town hall square of La Barre-en-Ouche, the restaurant welcomed its first curious customers as soon as it opened. “This morning [Wednesday, May 15], we had a bit more traffic with the market. All the feedback has been very positive. People are happy to have a restaurant,” remarked Gaylord.
A Welcoming Space and Flexible Hours
The restaurant can accommodate around thirty covers and also has a small terrace that can add about ten additional places. To better serve their clientele, especially on market days, John and Gaylord have extended their hours:
- Wednesday and Friday: until 9 PM with snack platters
They also plan to open on Saturday mornings, coinciding with the market to offer tastings of oysters and white wine.
